📝 Workshop #7

📅 Spring 2025

Our fourth wellness workshop centered on building and maintaining healthy relationships, focusing on the foundations of respect, communication, boundaries, honesty, and trust. Students learned how supportive relationships contribute to confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being.

In a group brainstorm, participants reflected on what constitutes a productive support system, identifying trusted individuals they can turn to in different situations—from managing school stress to navigating personal challenges.

The session introduced three core interpersonal effectiveness skills:

  • GIVE — Gentle, Interested, Validate, Easy manner (for getting people to like you and maintaining relationships)

  • FAST — Fair, No Apologies, Stick to your values, Truthful (for maintaining self-respect in relationships)

  • DEAR MAN — Describe, Express, Assert, Reinforce, Mindful, Appear confident, Negotiate (for getting what you want effectively, e.g., requesting an allowance or setting boundaries)

 

Through discussions and role-play activities, students practiced using these frameworks to foster trust, express needs clearly, and balance kindness with assertiveness.
