2023 Flash Fiction Competition Winners!

We absolutely appreciated every single submission, and we loved reading all the stories. But after multiple rounds of reading, we finally were able to pick out the top  winners of this year's competition. Here are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place stories of our 2023 Flash Fiction Competition, with honorable mentions coming soon!

First Place -
Pamela Erhiakeme

Pamela Erhiakeme is a 19-year-old nursing student and writer from Nigeria. She won first place in the October Ma Keke Contest by Gemspread Publishing and was a fellow of the 2024 Idembeka Creative Writing Workshop. Her love for reading influences her writing, and she hopes to evoke as much emotions through her works as she feels when with a book. When not poring over nursing textbooks, reading or writing, she also enjoys watching movies and TV shows and listening to music.

Second Place -
Jeremy Alexander

Jeremy is a current senior at Granada Hills Charter High School. Although he's interested in STEM, he engages in a wide range of activities from swimming for his school team to playing classical piano. Jeremy recently picked up writing as a hobby, and is interested in writing thought-provoking stories and pieces. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and trying new foods.

Third Place -

Isabella Suarez

Isabella Suarez is currently a freshman at North Hollywood High School’s Highly Gifted Magnet. She is a voracious reader whose favorite genres range from dystopian romance to young adult thrillers and even philosophical essays. Along with composing smaller, shorter pieces of writing, she loves to write poetry and perform it in slam poetry style. She is an aspiring novelist as well. Aside from literature, Isabella has been playing the viola for about eight years now and also loves creating her own jewelry. She writes to express her emotions, thoughts, and observations that on paper allow her to reflect back on them and better understand both the world around her & herself.
